Found throughout the open forests of south western Australia, often most noticeable after bush fires. Yellow flowers with deep red and orange tones emerge on almost 1m high stems in spring and summer. Plant in a well drained and sunny position, keeping in mind that these smaller kangaroo paws can be short lived (around 5 years). As with most kangaroo paws, this species dies back in summer and regenerates in autumn – cut off dead flower stems one at a time to allow for aeration and more flowering to occur. Do not chop right back as this may kill the smaller varieties. Will grow in heat and humidity, but does not do well in frost. Very drought tolerant due to the underground rhizomes it grows from. Feed and water regularly during flowering periods.
