Probably one of the best known Australian trees. A beautiful fast growing, widely spreading, thick trunked, large tree, with smooth multi-coloured bark (usually grey, off-white and brown). It varies considerably in appearance throughout its wide distribution, being a pure white bark in the dry inland. Leaves are a narrow grey-green, sometimes bluish, and is common along watercourses throughout Australia. It generally has a single trunk with a spreading canopy but multiple trunks can develop. Very adaptable even in salty environments, tolerates periods of inundation and dryness.
