This gum has a smooth trunk and large, lance shaped leaves. From winter to spring it produces beautiful profusion of deep pink-red flowers. This species shows variability in form. Its general habit of growth is that of a broad, thick leaved, dense spreading crown, ideal as a shelter and shade tree, a wind break/screen, coastal locations and for erosion control. Suited to roadside planting, large gardens and parks. Thrives in moist, well-drained soil in a sunny, open spot. Tolerates a wide range of soils and conditions including light frost, smog and periods of drought. Grows well in alkaline soils.
