Telopea speciosissima

The floral emblem of NSW, the Waratah forms an evergreen shrub or small tree with dark green, lobed leaves. It is renowned for its striking, bright red flowers, which are produced in spring. Makes for a superb cut flower and a lovely ornamental plant. Requires excellent drainage, but good moisture content. Thrives in a sunny to partly shaded position. Prune heavily after flowering to maintain compact growth.
